Hardly any electrical device today can work without the use of batteries, or more precisely lithium-ion batteries: from household appliances over computers and tablets, radios and many more. But most importantly, the entire field of e-mobility represents a huge field of application - whether motor vehicles, pedelecs or scooters. But what to do with the old batteries? And above all, how can the valuable and rare raw materials used in the batteries be made available to industry again? Lilian Schwich and Paul Sabarny at RWTH Aachen University have addressed this question. In many years of research, they have developed an innovative recycling process that differs significantly from existing processes. Together with Dr. Gideon Schwich, the team founded cylib GmbH in 2022. It was supported by RWTH Innovation, the start-up center of RWTH Aachen University.
